Cadenabbia di Griante

In ancient times, in Cadenabbia di Griante stood an inn where the “comballi” (merchant boats) transporting goods and commodities to the coastal countries used to call at. In 1820, this inn was turned into the first hotel for tourists and visitors with the name of “Albergo” Cadenabbia, later Hotel Belle Vue.

Since then, Cadenabbia became a favorite destination by the British who settled here in large numbers, forming a community so important as to prompt, at the end of the last century, the construction of an Anglican church, the first in Italy, under the Diocese of Gibraltar .

Cadenabbia houses, along its shores, a large number of residential villas, a concentration perhaps unique for its architectural and historical importance.

We certainly can not forget in this context the famous Villa Carlotta, built in 1690 by the Marquis Giorgio Clerici, a well known figure in Milan, where every day visitors come from all over the world to admire the beautiful gardens.
